According to the National Weather Service in Tampa Bay, a Level 2 out of 5 severe weather risk is in place across northern and central Florida Monday as thunderstorms move southeast across the peninsula. The strongest storms are expected to develop between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m., with the highest concentration of severe weather from the Tampa Bay region northward through the central Florida peninsula.

The first round of stronger storms could reach Citrus, Hernando, and Pasco counties between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., including areas near Crystal River, Brooksville, and Chiefland. The threat then shifts south toward Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Lakeland between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Storms may continue pushing farther south into Sarasota, Punta Gorda, and Fort Myers between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., where damaging wind gusts and intense lightning could impact the evening commute.

Forecasters warn the primary hazards include gusty to damaging winds, large hail, isolated tornadoes, and heavy rainfall capable of producing localized flooding. Residents are urged to enable emergency alerts on their phones and have multiple ways to receive warnings as storms move through.

Additional watches or warnings may be issued quickly if storms begin to rotate or intensify across the region later Monday.
