Longview, Texas – A fast-moving thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado is pushing across central Gregg County late Sunday afternoon, putting communities near Gladewater, Clarksville City, and rural areas toward Harrison County at immediate risk through 5:30 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, radar detected rotation at 4:51 p.m. CDT in a storm located near Clarksville City and Gladewater moving east at roughly 35 mph. The warning covers central Gregg County, southwestern Harrison County, and south-central Upshur County.

The strongest rotation is expected to track through rural areas between Gladewater and the western edge of Harrison County. Drivers along Interstate 20, U.S. Highway 271, and Texas Highway 300 could encounter rapidly changing conditions if the storm crosses the roadway during the late afternoon.

If a tornado develops, flying debris could damage roofs, vehicles, and trees while mobile homes face the greatest risk of destruction. Residents in the warning area should move immediately to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and stay away from windows.

People outside, in vehicles, or in mobile homes should seek the nearest substantial shelter and protect themselves from debris.

This storm will continue moving east across portions of Gregg and Harrison counties through the late afternoon. Additional warnings could be issued if the storm strengthens or new rotation develops.
