Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas – Drivers across North Texas may encounter difficult travel conditions within the next few hours as a powerful surge of north winds spreads across the region behind a cold front, with wind gusts potentially reaching 40 to 50 mph by midday Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, sustained winds between 20 and 35 mph will strengthen quickly late Sunday morning and continue through the evening as colder air pushes south across the state. The strongest gusts are expected to arrive first across northwestern counties including Graham and surrounding areas around 10 a.m., with peak winds most likely near noon.
The wind surge will then spread into the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex during the early afternoon, potentially affecting travel along major corridors such as Interstate 35, Interstate 20, and U.S. Highway 75. High-profile vehicles, including trucks and RVs, could experience difficult driving conditions as gusts approach 45 to 50 mph.
Farther south, communities including Waco, Killeen, and parts of Central Texas may see the strongest winds arrive between roughly 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., with gusty conditions persisting into the evening hours.
Loose outdoor objects may be blown around, and isolated tree limbs or power lines could come down in stronger gusts. Residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture, trash bins, and decorations before the strongest winds arrive.
Windy conditions are expected to gradually ease later Sunday night, but breezy conditions may linger into early Monday across parts of North Texas.
