California – Patchy coastal fog clings to the shoreline early this morning, but bright sun breaking through signals a sharp warming trend ahead. Temperatures across San Diego County will climb steadily this week as an early spring heat wave begins intensifying across Southern California.
According to the National Weather Service in San Diego, a Heat Advisory takes effect Monday at 10 a.m. and remains in place until 8 p.m. Friday. Coastal communities will see highs in the 80s, while inland valleys across Riverside and San Bernardino counties could surge into the 95°F to 105°F range later this week.
The warmup starts gradually along the coast. San Diego reaches near 75°F today as fog clears late morning and sunshine spreads inland. By Monday afternoon, temperatures rise toward 85°F, with steady sunshine across the region.
St. Patrick’s Day Tuesday brings stronger warming. San Diego could reach around 87°F, while communities farther inland heat faster. Cities such as Escondido, El Cajon, Riverside, and Ontario will feel the sharpest heat later this week.
By Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures across inland valleys may push toward triple digits, especially in the Inland Empire and Santa Ana foothills. The National Weather Service notes these readings could run 20 to 30 degrees above typical March averages.
Travelers should prepare for bright sun and warm pavement during afternoon drives along I-5, I-15, and I-8. Keep extra water in vehicles and avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon heat.
Even coastal neighborhoods will feel warmer than normal, though sea breezes may offer some afternoon relief.
Meteorologists say the unusual early spring warmth may linger through the week, with record temperatures possible if the ridge strengthens further.
