California – Bright morning sunshine spilling across the San Francisco Bay is signaling a fast-building spring warm spell. Temperatures will climb sharply in the coming days, pushing inland communities toward upper 80s and near 90°F by Tuesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in San Francisco, a Heat Advisory takes effect Monday at 10 a.m. and continues through 8 p.m. Friday for much of the Bay Area and Central Coast. Interior valleys are expected to reach the low to mid-90s, while coastal areas including San Francisco warm into the 80s, well above normal for March.

The warming trend begins quickly. Afternoon sunshine today lifts temperatures into the upper 70s near downtown San Francisco, with clear skies stretching across the Peninsula and East Bay.

By Monday, daytime highs climb into the mid-80s across the city. Inland locations such as San Jose, Santa Clara, Walnut Creek, and Livermore will heat faster, pushing toward the upper 80s and low 90s as the ridge strengthens overhead.

Tuesday brings the peak of the early spring heat. San Francisco could reach 88°F, while interior valleys move deeper into the 90°F range. Pavement will heat quickly during the afternoon commute.

Drivers along US-101, I-80, and I-280 may notice glare and warmer road surfaces by mid-afternoon. Carry water if walking or commuting outdoors. Dress in lightweight clothing and take shade breaks.

Even coastal neighborhoods will feel the warmth. Ocean breezes may arrive late in the afternoon but offer limited cooling earlier in the day.

Meteorologists say the heat will persist through midweek with mostly clear skies. Nights remain mild in the upper 50s to near 60°F, providing only modest relief for urban neighborhoods.

More advisories could follow if temperatures trend higher later in the week.
