California – Bright sun already warming sidewalks across Los Angeles this morning is the first hint of a rapid temperature surge building into the week. By Tuesday afternoon, thermometers could spike near 101°F, turning what should feel like early spring into mid-summer heat across Southern California.

According to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard, a Heat Advisory begins Monday at 10 a.m. and lasts until 8 p.m., with temperatures expected to reach 93°F in Los Angeles. An Extreme Heat Watch then takes over Monday evening and continues through Friday evening, as a strengthening high-pressure ridge pushes temperatures into the 100–104°F range across inland valleys.

The warming trend ramps up quickly. Monday brings dry sunshine and rising heat across downtown Los Angeles, the San Fernando Valley, and Santa Clarita. By Tuesday—St. Patrick’s Day—temperatures could peak near 101°F, especially away from coastal breezes. Expect pavement and parked cars to heat rapidly during the afternoon commute.

Cities including Pasadena, Burbank, Glendale, and Woodland Hills may feel the most intense heat. Light winds offer little relief. Hydration and shaded breaks will matter for anyone outdoors.

Drivers should prepare for hot interiors and strong glare during afternoon travel on I-5, US-101, and I-10. Keep water in vehicles and avoid leaving pets or children in parked cars.

The heat lingers through midweek. Wednesday and Thursday could again approach 100°F, unusually high for March. Meteorologists say this early-season heat may challenge local records if the ridge strengthens further.

Conditions remain dry with clear skies, meaning the sun will drive rapid daytime warming each afternoon. Residents should limit strenuous activity during peak heat between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. and check on vulnerable neighbors.

More updates may follow as the Extreme Heat Watch evolves into potential warnings later this week.
