Arkansas skies look gray and unsettled this morning, and gusty winds already sweep across central parts of the state. By midday, those winds may rattle signs and bend tree limbs across the Little Rock metro.
Storm clouds building to the west could bring rain and thunder before the region flips back to winterlike chill.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, a Wind Advisory remains in effect from 7 a.m. today until 7 a.m. Monday across much of central and eastern Arkansas. South winds between 15 and 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph may develop through the afternoon.
Cities including Little Rock, Conway, Benton, Pine Bluff, and Searcy could see the strongest gusts during peak heating hours.
Drivers along Interstate 30, Interstate 40, and Interstate 530 may experience sudden crosswinds, especially on river bridges and open highway stretches. Secure loose outdoor objects early today. Trash cans, lawn furniture, and decorations could blow around.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to move across the region through the afternoon. Brief heavy rain may reduce visibility on roadways during evening travel.
Behind the storm system, colder air pushes quickly into Arkansas tonight.
A Freeze Warning takes effect early Monday morning, with temperatures expected to drop to around 29°F across central Arkansas. Frost and freezing conditions could damage early spring vegetation and sensitive plants.
Gardeners should cover plants and protect outdoor plumbing before temperatures drop.
The chill will not last long. By St. Patrick’s Day Tuesday, sunshine returns and temperatures climb into the low 50s. Warmer spring air follows later in the week.
Highs could surge back into the upper 60s and even low 80s by Thursday, signaling a fast rebound toward spring warmth.
