Oklahoma air already feels restless across the Tulsa metro this morning. Winds whip across open fields and highway overpasses, hinting at a volatile spring setup developing through the day.
Drivers may notice sudden gusts tugging at vehicles along major routes around the city. The wind threat will intensify quickly as the day progresses.
According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 1 a.m. Monday across eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. South winds between 20 and 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are expected early, shifting northwest later with gusts potentially reaching 55 to 60 mph as a strong cold front moves through.
Communities including Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Owasso, Claremore, and Muskogee could see the strongest gusts during the afternoon and evening.
High-profile vehicles traveling on Interstate 44, U.S. Highway 75, and the Creek Turnpike may experience difficult driving conditions. Strong gusts could push vehicles sideways on exposed bridges and open stretches of highway.
Secure outdoor objects early today. Trash cans, patio furniture, and construction materials could easily blow around in these winds.
Meteorologists are also monitoring isolated thunderstorms developing early this afternoon across northwest Arkansas before shifting east. Any storm that develops could briefly become strong.
Dry grass combined with strong winds also creates elevated wildfire danger across eastern Oklahoma. Any small spark could spread quickly across open fields.
Cooler air arrives behind the front tonight. Temperatures tumble quickly with lows dropping into the mid-20s by Monday night across parts of eastern Oklahoma.
By St. Patrick’s Day Tuesday, calmer weather returns with sunshine and milder temperatures near 62°F.
Warmer spring air builds later in the week, with highs climbing back toward the upper 70s by Wednesday and near 90°F by late week.
