Louisiana skies may look calm early today, but gusty winds are already building across the Ark-La-Tex. By afternoon, flags will snap and tree limbs will sway as a powerful spring system pushes toward northwest Louisiana.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, a Wind Advisory runs from 7 a.m. through Monday evening across north-central and northwest Louisiana and parts of east Texas. Northwest winds between 15 and 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph are expected through the region.

Communities including Shreveport, Bossier City, Natchitoches, and Mansfield could see the strongest gusts through the afternoon. Drivers along Interstate 20, Interstate 49, and U.S. 71 may feel sudden crosswinds, especially on bridges and open stretches of highway.

Secure loose outdoor items early today. Patio furniture, trash bins, and decorations could easily shift or blow away.

Meteorologists are also tracking scattered thunderstorms developing later today, some capable of becoming severe. Damaging wind remains the primary threat across the Ark-La-Tex corridor. Heavy rain and lightning may briefly reduce visibility for drivers during evening travel.

Behind the storms, cooler air sweeps into the region Monday. Sunshine returns, but brisk northwest winds continue with gusts near 35 mph through the day.

Temperatures drop sharply by Monday night, falling close to 30°F in parts of northwest Louisiana. Early spring warmth returns quickly after that brief chill.

By St. Patrick’s Day Tuesday, skies turn sunny with calmer winds and temperatures climbing toward the upper 50s. Warmer spring air follows midweek.

Another round of pleasant spring warmth could push temperatures back into the 70s and lower 80s by mid-to-late week, signaling a clear shift toward the next seasonal pattern.
