Oklahoma – Dust lifts off dry fields and swirls across highways this morning as powerful winds surge into central Oklahoma. The air already feels warm and restless around Oklahoma City, and conditions will intensify quickly as the day unfolds.
According to the National Weather Service in Norman, a High Wind Warning remains in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. across central Oklahoma, including Oklahoma City, Norman, Edmond, Yukon, and Stillwater. Northwest winds will strengthen to 35–45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph, strong enough to down tree limbs and damage power lines.
Drivers along Interstate 35, Interstate 40, and Interstate 44 should prepare for sudden crosswinds and blowing dust, especially across open areas west of Oklahoma City. Visibility may briefly drop in dusty bursts, creating dangerous travel conditions for trucks and high-profile vehicles.
Meteorologists are also tracking a Red Flag Warning beginning at noon as humidity falls near 20 percent and temperatures approach the upper 60s. These conditions can cause any spark to spread rapidly into fast-moving grass fires across western and central Oklahoma.
Residents should avoid outdoor burning, secure loose outdoor objects, and stay alert for smoke columns or emergency alerts. Fire crews across the region are already preparing for elevated wildfire activity as winds peak during the afternoon hours.
By tonight, winds ease slightly but cooler air settles into the region. Sunshine returns Monday with calmer conditions before a warming trend builds quickly through midweek.
Looking ahead, temperatures climb sharply with highs near 81°F Wednesday and near 90°F by Thursday, signaling an early surge of spring warmth across Oklahoma.
