Minnesota – Snow whips across the Twin Cities this morning as powerful winds sweep through southern Minnesota. Visibility drops quickly as blowing snow crosses highways and neighborhoods.
Roads are already becoming difficult to navigate across Minneapolis and St. Paul. Gusty winds push powder across lanes, creating sudden whiteout conditions.
Temperatures sit near 28°F early this morning at Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport, while steady snowfall continues across the metro area.
According to the National Weather Service in Twin Cities/Chanhassen, a Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 4 a.m. Monday across the Twin Cities and surrounding counties.
Meteorologists say an additional 7 to 11 inches of snow could fall through the storm. Snowfall rates may reach 2 to 3 inches per hour during heavier bands.
Strong north winds will intensify through the day, with gusts approaching 50 mph. The combination of heavy snow and wind will produce widespread blowing snow.
Travel across the region could become difficult to nearly impossible, especially along Interstate 94, Interstate 35, and Interstate 494.
Drivers should avoid unnecessary travel if possible. If travel becomes unavoidable, keep emergency supplies in your vehicle.
The storm slowly weakens later tonight as snow tapers. However, blowing snow may continue even after snowfall decreases.
Behind the storm, sharply colder air arrives. High temperatures Monday may struggle to reach 15°F, with wind chills falling well below zero.
Another round of light snow could return Tuesday as the atmosphere remains active across the Upper Midwest.
