New York – Light snowflakes swirl across Buffalo this morning while the wind brushes cold air off Lake Erie. Temperatures sit near 30°F, and the air carries that familiar late-winter bite.

Snow tapers through the morning, leaving damp pavement and slushy patches on secondary roads. Drivers across I-90, Route 33, and the Niagara Thruway should stay cautious early.

Skies begin clearing as the day progresses, allowing temperatures to surge toward 52°F. That mild burst feels like early spring across western New York.

But calm conditions won’t last.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Wind Advisory beginning late today and continuing into Monday evening.

South winds strengthen through the afternoon and evening, frequently gusting up to 50 mph. Those gusts could toss around loose outdoor items and break small tree branches.

Travel may become difficult for trucks and high-profile vehicles, especially along open stretches near Lake Erie and elevated roadways.

Tonight stays breezy with mostly cloudy skies and temperatures dropping to around 40°F.

A stronger cold front then sweeps across the Great Lakes Monday.

Rain develops during the day and may mix with wet snow as colder air pours back into western New York. Temperatures briefly reach near 50°F before falling sharply.

By Monday night, rain transitions to snow showers, and winds remain gusty. Temperatures plunge to around 17°F, creating conditions ripe for flash freezing on untreated roads.

Early St. Patrick’s Day Tuesday starts cold with highs only near 25°F and scattered snow showers possible.

Midweek slowly moderates. Wednesday stays mostly cloudy with highs near 34°F, while Thursday warms toward 44°F with mixed rain or snow possible.

Long-range outlooks hint at warmer spring air pushing toward the Great Lakes later next week.

For now, secure outdoor items and plan extra travel time if you’re driving across Buffalo later today. Are winds already picking up where you live?
