South Carolina – Damp pavement glistens across Columbia this morning as thick clouds drift overhead and temperatures sit near 55°F. The air feels mild now, but a sharp shift in spring weather is already developing.

Scattered showers move across central South Carolina today as warmer air surges north. Afternoon temperatures climb toward 77°F, creating a brief burst of early spring warmth.

A few thunderstorms may pop up during the afternoon and evening. Roads across I-20, I-26, and I-77 could turn slick as rain moves through the Midlands.

Conditions stay unsettled tonight with additional showers possible as moisture lingers across the region.

Meteorologists say the bigger weather shift arrives Monday.

Another round of showers and thunderstorms develops Monday morning as a strong cold front sweeps across the Southeast. Temperatures still reach the mid-70s, but winds increase and skies stay unsettled through the day.

Behind that front, colder air rushes south quickly.

By late Monday night, skies begin clearing while temperatures drop sharply across central South Carolina. The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Watch for portions of the Midlands and nearby east-central Georgia.

Temperatures could fall to around 29°F early Tuesday morning, cold enough to damage tender plants and early spring vegetation.

Gardeners and homeowners should cover plants and protect outdoor pipes before temperatures fall.

By St. Patrick’s Day Tuesday, sunshine returns but the air feels noticeably cooler. Afternoon highs reach only about 51°F with a brisk breeze.

Calmer weather continues Wednesday with sunny skies and highs near 55°F. Temperatures rebound quickly by Thursday with classic spring warmth returning near 66°F.

Long-range outlooks suggest above-normal temperatures could spread across the Southeast later next week, signaling stronger spring vibes ahead.

For now, enjoy the warm air today but prepare for a quick cold snap early Tuesday. Are flowers already blooming where you live around Columbia?
