Virginia – Calm coastal air drifts across Virginia Beach this morning while the Atlantic sits quiet under early sunshine. Temperatures hover near 48°F, but a much more active weather pattern is building just inland.

Clouds increase through the day as warmer air flows into southeast Virginia. Afternoon temperatures climb toward 58°F, creating a mild early-spring feel along the coast.

That warmth sets the stage for unsettled weather tonight and Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, showers begin developing tonight as moisture increases across eastern Virginia. A few thunderstorms may develop before sunrise, leaving roads damp across Hampton Roads.

Drivers along I-64, I-264, and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel could encounter wet pavement and patchy visibility early.

The bigger concern arrives Monday. Meteorologists are tracking a strong cold front that will sweep across Virginia late in the day.

Temperatures surge toward 70°F Monday, fueling a line of thunderstorms capable of becoming severe. Damaging wind gusts are the primary threat, though a brief tornado cannot be ruled out across parts of coastal Virginia.

Storms may develop through the late morning and afternoon before the main line pushes across the region later in the day.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items and stay weather-aware as conditions could change quickly.

Behind the front, cooler air returns fast. By St. Patrick’s Day Tuesday, skies turn partly sunny with highs near 48°F and breezy west winds.

Midweek remains calm but cool with sunshine returning Wednesday and highs around 46°F. Temperatures gradually rebound Thursday with more typical spring weather near 53°F.

Long-range trends hint that warmer spring temperatures could build across Virginia later next week.

If you’re commuting across Hampton Roads Monday, keep an eye on the sky and plan extra time for travel. Are clouds already thickening along the coast where you live?
