Georgia – Warm spring air drifts across Atlanta this morning, and the skyline sits under calm skies near 57°F. It feels like an early taste of spring, but a sharp weather swing is already lining up across north and central Georgia.
Sun breaks through scattered clouds today, pushing temperatures toward 73°F by afternoon. The warmth will not last long.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, scattered thunderstorms may develop later today across east-central Georgia, and a stronger line of storms could arrive Monday as a powerful cold front pushes through the Southeast. Damaging winds will be the primary threat, and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.
Rain becomes more widespread Monday morning across metro Atlanta. Showers and thunderstorms could produce brief downpours and gusty winds across major corridors including I-75, I-85, and I-285. Drivers should expect slick pavement during the morning and afternoon commute.
Behind the front, temperatures drop dramatically. Monday evening marks the beginning of a Freeze Watch across much of north and central Georgia.
Meteorologists say temperatures could fall to around 28°F by early Tuesday morning, cold enough to damage early spring vegetation and sensitive crops. Gardeners should cover plants and bring potted greenery indoors.
By St. Patrick’s Day Tuesday, sunshine returns but the air feels sharply colder. High temperatures only reach about 46°F despite bright skies.
Conditions gradually improve through midweek. Wednesday warms into the mid-50s with sunshine returning across the Atlanta area. Spring warmth rebounds quickly by Thursday, when temperatures climb into the mid-60s.
Looking ahead, long-range signals show above-normal temperatures expanding across the Southeast later next week.
