Chicago, Illinois – The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for parts of northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana Sunday, with dangerous wind gusts up to 65 mph expected.

The warning is in effect from 10 a.m. CDT (11 a.m. EDT) through 9 p.m. CDT (10 p.m. EDT).

Affected areas include Kankakee, Iroquois, and Ford counties in Illinois, along with Lake, Porter, Newton, Jasper, and Benton counties in Indiana, including cities such as Gary, Hammond, Valparaiso, Merrillville, Kankakee, Watseka, and Rensselaer.

Forecasters say southerly winds will strengthen throughout the day, with sustained winds around 30 mph and gusts reaching up to 65 mph.

These powerful winds could bring down trees and power lines, potentially causing localized power outages.

Travel may also become difficult, particularly on west-to-east oriented roadways, where strong crosswinds could impact vehicles.

Officials urge residents to use caution when driving and watch for falling debris and tree limbs throughout the day.
