Indianapolis, IN – Central Indiana is expected to experience multiple rounds of hazardous weather today through Monday, including strong winds, severe thunderstorms tonight, and possible snow on Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.
Wind Advisory in Effect
A Wind Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. Sunday through 8 a.m. Monday across all of central Indiana.
Forecasters say south winds will strengthen throughout the afternoon, with:
- Sustained winds of 25–35 mph
- Wind gusts reaching 45–55 mph
The strong winds could result in:
- Downed tree limbs
- Minor roof or siding damage
- Isolated power outages
- Difficult travel for high-profile vehicles
Severe Storms Tonight
Later tonight, a line of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to move across the state.
Storms are forecast to enter western Indiana around 8 p.m. and move east through the overnight hours, exiting the eastern part of the state by around 1 a.m. Monday.
The main threat will be damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph, though isolated tornadoes are also possible.
The greatest risk for severe storms will be south and west of the Interstate 74 corridor, where the Storm Prediction Center has issued an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5).
Snow Possible Monday
After the storms pass, colder air will move into the region.
Forecasters say snow could develop late tonight into Monday, with:
- Average snowfall totals under 1 inch
- Localized higher amounts possible
- Brief bursts of heavier snow Monday afternoon
Some areas may experience slick spots on roads during the day Monday.
