Detroit, MI – Strong winds are expected across parts of Southeast Michigan today as the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac has issued a Wind Advisory for counties along and south of the I-69 corridor.
The advisory is in effect from 11 AM Sunday until midnight Sunday night.
Forecasters say south winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts reaching 45 to 50 mph could impact cities including Detroit, Ann Arbor, Flint, Pontiac, Adrian, Monroe, Howell, and Port Huron.
Potential Impacts
The strong winds could lead to several hazards across the region:
- Difficult driving conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles
- Tree limb damage
- Scattered power outages
- Lightweight outdoor objects blown around
Drivers traveling along major roadways such as I-75, I-96, I-94, and I-69 should use extra caution, particularly on open stretches where wind gusts may be stronger.
Safety Tips
Officials recommend residents take precautions ahead of the windy conditions:
- Secure outdoor furniture and decorations
- Use caution while driving, especially in larger vehicles
- Be prepared for possible brief power outages
The gusty winds are being driven by a strong storm system moving through the Great Lakes, which is also helping fuel severe weather across parts of the Midwest and South today.
