Statesboro, Georgia – Temperatures could dip to 31°F across southeast Georgia and the South Carolina Lowcountry by early Tuesday morning, creating a brief but potentially damaging freeze for crops, backyard gardens, and exposed plumbing.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Freeze Watch remains in effect from late Monday night through Tuesday morning for Bulloch, Candler, Evans, Jenkins, Screven, and Tattnall counties in Georgia, along with Allendale and Hampton counties in South Carolina. Overnight lows are expected to slip just below the freezing mark in several inland communities.
Cities including Statesboro, Sylvania, Millen, Metter, Claxton, and Reidsville could see frost forming before sunrise Tuesday as temperatures fall toward the 30–31°F range. Similar conditions are possible in Allendale and Hampton, where clear skies and light winds may allow heat to escape quickly overnight.
Agricultural areas across the region face the greatest risk. Tender spring crops and flowering plants can suffer damage after even a short period below freezing. Homeowners are urged to cover sensitive plants, bring potted vegetation indoors, and wrap exposed outdoor pipes before temperatures fall Monday night.
Drivers along I-16 and rural highways across Bulloch and Screven counties may also encounter patchy frost on bridges around the early Tuesday commute.
Additional advisories could follow if temperatures trend colder, but the current freeze threat is expected to ease shortly after sunrise Tuesday.
