Milwaukee, Wisconsin – A strengthening winter storm is set to hit southeast Wisconsin Sunday night, bringing heavy snow, strong winds, and near-blizzard conditions that could severely disrupt the Monday commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect Sunday across parts of the region, with mixed precipitation producing 1 to 2 inches of snow and up to 0.10 inches of ice before conditions worsen later in the day. Winds may gust up to 40 mph, creating slick bridges and overpasses.
A Winter Storm Warning begins Sunday evening and continues through Monday afternoon for several counties including Fond du Lac, Columbia, Green Lake, Marquette, Dodge, and Sheboygan. These areas could receive 5 to 10 inches of snow, with wind gusts up to 50 mph producing blowing and drifting snow. Visibility may fall below a quarter mile, especially late Sunday night into early Monday.
Cities such as Fond du Lac, Beaver Dam, Plymouth, and Portage are likely to see the heaviest snowfall totals.
Farther south, including Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, Waukesha, and Lake Geneva, a Winter Weather Advisory begins 10 p.m. Sunday and lasts until 4 p.m. Monday, with 2 to 5 inches of snow and sleet expected alongside 45 mph wind gusts.
Major travel corridors including Interstate 94, Interstate 43, and Highway 41 may see rapidly deteriorating conditions overnight Sunday and during the Monday morning commute. Officials urge residents to delay travel if possible and monitor Wisconsin 511 road conditions as the storm develops.
