Joliet, Illinois – SWAT teams responded after early-morning gunfire at a Joliet home prompted a sheriff’s investigation.

According to the Will County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 3:14 a.m. Saturday to the 1800 block of Hillcrest Road after reports that shots had been fired at a residence.

Investigators said a fight at the home allegedly escalated, leading to gunfire from the porch of the residence. Deputies located two victims who were not injured, but reported that a man inside the house had fired multiple shots.

Authorities identified the suspect as Hunter Harvey, who was allegedly still inside the home when deputies arrived. Officials said other people were also inside the residence, including children, raising safety concerns for responding officers.

The Will County Sheriff’s Office established a perimeter and activated its SWAT team and negotiators as the situation developed. Deputies attempted to clear the home while negotiators worked to make contact with Harvey.

According to the sheriff’s office, negotiators were ultimately able to convince Harvey and the other occupants to exit the home safely. Officials said no injuries were reported during the incident.

A woman at the scene was also detained after authorities described her as uncooperative with deputies, though officials did not immediately specify whether she faces charges.

Harvey was taken into custody and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility for processing.

Authorities said Harvey is facing several charges, including Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and Aggravated Assault. Investigators have not released additional details about the circumstances that led to the initial fight.

The overnight police response temporarily drew attention in the residential neighborhood, an area commonly traveled by local commuters and students during morning hours.

Officials emphasized that all charges are allegations, and Harvey is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
