Cincinnati, Ohio – Communities along the Ohio River basin are being urged to monitor river levels closely as a new round of rain moves into the region Sunday evening, with up to 1 inch of rainfall expected by Monday night in areas where flooding is already ongoing.

According to the National Weather Service Ohio River Forecast Center, minor to moderate river flooding continues across parts of southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and northwest Ohio, and the incoming rainfall could slow the decline of those river levels or even cause renewed rises early next week.

The system will push rain across much of the Ohio Valley Sunday night into Monday. Forecast totals show 0.5 to 1.0 inches of precipitation across Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia, with locally higher amounts possible where thunderstorms develop.

River gauges across the basin show the most persistent flooding concerns along tributaries feeding the lower Wabash, White, and Maumee River systems, though water levels remain elevated throughout much of the broader Ohio River drainage basin.

Emergency managers warn that even moderate rainfall can prolong flooding when rivers are already swollen. Residents in flood-prone areas should monitor local river forecasts, avoid driving through flooded roads, and prepare for possible renewed water rises along low-lying river communities.

Rain tapers Monday night, but hydrologists warn river levels may continue adjusting through midweek as runoff moves downstream. Additional river advisories could be issued if rainfall totals increase.
