Jackson, Kentucky – Mild weather across eastern Kentucky this weekend will give way to thunderstorms Sunday night and colder conditions Monday as a strong cold front moves through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, skies will remain partly to mostly sunny Saturday with daytime highs ranging from 55 to 72 degrees.

Conditions will stay relatively quiet overnight, with mostly clear to partly cloudy skies and low temperatures between 35 and 55 degrees.

On Sunday, temperatures will climb even higher, with highs expected between 72 and 77 degrees under partly cloudy skies.

The weather pattern will begin to change Sunday night, when showers and possibly thunderstorms move into eastern Kentucky from the west ahead of the approaching cold front.

By Monday, forecasters say thunderstorms may occur early before precipitation transitions to rain for most locations and possibly snow showers later in the day as colder air moves into the region.

Temperatures Monday are expected to steadily fall through the day, potentially dropping to around 30 to 37 degrees by evening.

The system could bring changing travel conditions Monday, especially if colder air allows rain to briefly mix with or change to snow in parts of eastern Kentucky.

The shifting weather pattern may affect early Monday commuters, students, and travelers as the front pushes through the region.

Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring updates from the National Weather Service Jackson office as the cold front approaches.
