Tallahassee, Florida – Strong to severe thunderstorms could move across the Florida Panhandle and nearby areas Sunday night into Monday morning, bringing damaging wind risks and the potential for brief tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, a fast-moving line of storms is forecast to race across the region as a strong system moves through the Southeast.

Forecasters say the primary concern will be scattered damaging wind gusts between 40 and 70 mph, though a few brief tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

A Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather covers southeast Alabama and much of the Florida Panhandle, including the Tallahassee area, Sunday night into early Monday.

Storms are expected to move through the region overnight Sunday into Monday morning, which could increase the risk for residents who may be asleep when warnings are issued.

Another round of storm potential is possible later Monday morning through Monday afternoon, mainly affecting southwest Georgia and parts of the Florida Big Bend, where a Slight Risk also remains in place.

The National Weather Service urges residents to have multiple ways to receive severe weather warnings, including weather alerts on mobile devices or NOAA Weather Radio.

The overnight timing could affect late-night travelers and early Monday commuters across the Florida Panhandle and south Georgia.
