Jackson, MS – A sharp weather swing is expected across central Mississippi as warm spring temperatures Sunday give way to overnight storms and a much colder start to the week.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, temperatures will rise quickly Sunday with highs reaching around 83°F under mostly sunny skies. South winds increasing to 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph could make the afternoon feel breezy across the Jackson metro.
Storm chances increase late Sunday night. Forecasters expect showers and possibly thunderstorms after 4 a.m. Monday, with a 100% chance of precipitation across Hinds, Madison, and Rankin counties. Rainfall totals could reach a quarter to a half inch before the system exits the region.
Behind the storm system, a much colder air mass moves into central Mississippi. High temperatures Monday will reach only around 47°F, nearly 35 degrees colder than Sunday afternoon, with northwest winds gusting up to 30 mph.
Communities including Jackson, Clinton, Ridgeland, and Pearl could also see a late-season chill Monday night as temperatures drop to around 27°F, raising the risk of frost and freezing conditions for early spring vegetation.
Conditions begin improving Tuesday with sunshine returning and temperatures slowly rebounding across the region.
