Salt Lake City, UT – Strong winds sweeping across the Salt Lake Valley today could create hazardous travel conditions and areas of blowing dust before calmer weather returns Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until midnight tonight, with gusts expected to reach up to 40 mph across parts of the Wasatch Front. These winds could impact travel along major routes including Interstate 15, Interstate 80, and State Route 201, particularly for high-profile vehicles.
A 40% chance of rain develops this afternoon across the Salt Lake City metro area as clouds increase ahead of a passing disturbance. Daytime highs will reach around 62°F, while southeast winds of 8 to 18 mph strengthen and shift northwest later in the day with gusts nearing 32 to 40 mph.
Showers may continue into tonight with a chance of rain mixing with snow before 9 p.m., especially across higher elevations along the Wasatch Range. Temperatures will drop to around 30°F overnight, with little or no snow accumulation expected in the valley.
Conditions improve quickly Sunday with mostly sunny skies and highs near 45°F, followed by a warming trend early next week.
By Tuesday, temperatures climb to around 72°F, bringing milder spring weather back to Salt Lake City, West Valley City, Taylorsville, and Sandy.
