Colorado Springs, CO – Dangerous fire conditions are developing across southern Colorado this morning as strong winds and dry air combine with warm temperatures across the Pikes Peak region.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 10 p.m. Saturday for Colorado Springs and surrounding areas as gusty winds and low humidity create rapid fire spread potential. Temperatures will climb to around 75°F this afternoon, while west winds increase to 15–25 mph with gusts approaching 40 mph.

Conditions will change quickly overnight as a cold front moves across the Front Range. Rain showers are expected to develop after 3 a.m. Sunday, transitioning to snow showers by early morning as temperatures drop sharply.

A High Wind Watch begins Sunday morning and continues through Sunday evening, with north winds of 20–25 mph and gusts up to 45 mph possible across Colorado Springs, Fountain, Monument, and the Interstate 25 corridor. Snow showers will remain possible before 9 a.m. Sunday, though little accumulation is expected.

Temperatures will struggle to reach 35°F Sunday afternoon, marking a dramatic drop of nearly 40 degrees compared to Saturday’s warmth.

Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning today due to extreme fire danger and secure loose outdoor items ahead of strong winds Sunday.
