Blacksburg, VA – Clouds will gradually increase across the New River Valley today as a mild weekend leads into a wetter start to the week with rain, thunderstorms and even a chance of snow.

Saturday will see increasing clouds and a high near 61°F, with light west winds around 3 to 6 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Skies clear overnight with lows near 40°F and calm winds across the Virginia Tech area.

By Sunday afternoon, a 30% chance of showers develops after 2 p.m. as temperatures reach around 60°F. Winds will shift from calm to southeast around 5 to 9 mph, with occasional gusts up to 22 mph.

Rain chances increase Sunday night with showers likely and lows around 50°F.

The most active weather arrives Monday, when showers and thunderstorms become likely after 2 p.m. Temperatures will climb to around 58°F, and rainfall totals between 0.5 and 0.75 inches could fall across Montgomery County.

Colder air moves in Monday night as rain mixes with snow showers, especially after 8 p.m., though little to no accumulation is expected. Overnight temperatures will fall sharply to around 21°F.

Drier air returns Tuesday with partly sunny skies and highs near 31°F, followed by clear, cold conditions Tuesday night with lows dipping to around 17°F.

Sunshine returns midweek with temperatures rebounding to the mid-40s by Wednesday across the Blacksburg area.
