Caribou, ME – Snow-covered roads are likely across northern Maine through the afternoon as steady snowfall continues across Aroostook County, creating slippery travel conditions for drivers over the next several hours.
A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Saturday, with accumulating snow expected to impact roads across Caribou and surrounding communities.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, steady snowfall will continue through the day with 2 to 4 inches of total accumulation possible. Northeast winds between 8 and 15 mph, with gusts up to 26 mph, may occasionally reduce visibility during heavier snow bands.
Roads across U.S. Route 1, Route 89, and Route 161 could become snow-covered and slick, especially during the afternoon hours. Drivers are encouraged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time for travel.
Snow tapers tonight, though a few lingering snow showers may continue into the overnight hours as temperatures drop to around 18°F.
Conditions improve Sunday with mostly sunny skies and highs near 33°F, offering a break from the active weather before another system brings rain and snow back to northern Maine early next week.
