According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, a powerful storm system arrives Sunday as temperatures surge to around 67°F. Rain and possible thunderstorms develop after 1 p.m. Sunday, with south winds increasing to 28–33 mph and gusts approaching 49 mph.
Colder air arrives late Sunday night as rain transitions to snow after midnight, with patchy blowing snow developing after 3 a.m. Monday. Northwest winds could continue gusting near 39 mph, reducing visibility along major corridors including Interstate 57, Interstate 74, and U.S. Route 45.
Snow accumulation should remain under 1 inch, but falling temperatures and gusty winds may still create slippery stretches on area highways before sunrise.
