Davenport, IA – Drivers across the Quad Cities could face dangerous travel conditions before the Monday morning commute as a powerful storm system brings snow, strong winds, and blowing snow to eastern Iowa and western Illinois.
Saturday remains mostly cloudy but mild with temperatures climbing to around 48°F across the Mississippi River valley. Conditions stay relatively quiet through the evening before the next system approaches overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, a Winter Storm Watch and High Wind Watch remain in effect from Sunday evening through Monday evening. Rain and thunderstorms may develop after 7 a.m. Sunday, with temperatures rising to around 61°F before a sharp cold front moves through late in the day.
Rain will rapidly change to a wintry mix and then snow after 10 p.m. Sunday as colder air surges into the region. Northwest winds could gust up to 40 mph, creating patchy blowing snow and reduced visibility along major corridors including Interstate 80, Interstate 74, and U.S. Highway 61.
Snow totals of 3 to 5 inches are possible across parts of the Quad Cities area, which could create snow-covered roads and hazardous travel overnight into Monday.
Blustery conditions continue Monday with highs only reaching around 21°F before skies gradually clear Monday night. Sunshine returns Tuesday with highs near 27°F, though another round of snow may develop across eastern Iowa by Tuesday night.
