Fort Wayne, IN – Drivers across northeast Indiana could encounter wet roads late Sunday night and slick spots by the Monday morning commute as rain transitions to snow behind a powerful cold front sweeping through the region.
Saturday remains calm with partly sunny skies and temperatures climbing to around 44°F across Allen County and surrounding communities. Winds stay light through the day before a dramatic warmup begins Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, temperatures surge Sunday with highs reaching around 70°F while southerly winds strengthen significantly. Gusts could reach up to 50 mph during the afternoon as the next storm system approaches.
Rain develops before 11 p.m. Sunday, with periods of heavier showers and isolated thunderstorms possible overnight. Rainfall totals between 0.25 and 0.50 inches could lead to wet pavement on major routes including I-69, U.S. 30, and U.S. 24.
Colder air arrives early Monday, allowing rain to mix with and change to snow showers before 11 a.m. Monday. Snow accumulation is expected to remain under half an inch, but gusty winds up to 35 mph could briefly reduce visibility.
Temperatures will struggle to reach 35°F Monday, marking a sharp drop from Sunday’s warmth. Skies remain mostly cloudy Tuesday with highs near 27°F, while additional light snow chances may return to northern Indiana by midweek.
