Virginia Beach, VA – Drivers across Virginia Beach and the Hampton Roads region could encounter wet roads and bursts of heavy rain before the Monday morning commute as showers and thunderstorms move into coastal Virginia overnight.

Saturday remains quiet and mild with mostly sunny skies and highs reaching around 61°F across Virginia Beach and nearby communities. Light winds and dry conditions should keep travel smooth along the coast through the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, scattered showers may begin after 2 p.m. Sunday, but the more significant round of rain develops after 11 p.m. Sunday night. Showers and possible thunderstorms will continue into Monday with temperatures rising to around 69°F.

Breezy conditions accompany the storm system Monday, with southerly wind gusts up to 36 mph possible across Hampton Roads. Rainfall totals between 0.25 and 0.50 inches could lead to ponding on major routes including I-264, I-64, and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, particularly during heavier bursts early Monday.

Showers gradually taper Monday night as colder air filters into southeastern Virginia, with overnight lows falling to around 37°F. A brief rain-to-snow mix is possible inland before precipitation ends.

Sunny and breezy weather returns Tuesday with highs near 48°F, followed by quieter conditions across coastal Virginia through midweek. Additional advisories could be issued if thunderstorms strengthen late Sunday night.
