Charlotte, NC –
Drivers across Charlotte could encounter wet roads and reduced visibility early Monday as showers and thunderstorms move into the metro area overnight, setting up a soggy start to the workweek.

Saturday remains bright and warm across Mecklenburg County with sunshine pushing temperatures to around 73°F. Calm winds and dry air should keep travel smooth across the region through the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, clouds increase Sunday with scattered showers developing after 1 p.m., followed by steadier rain and possible thunderstorms after 9 p.m. Sunday night. Rain becomes more widespread Monday with temperatures reaching around 69°F and southwest wind gusts up to 36 mph.

Periods of rain could create ponding water along major routes including I-77, I-85, and Independence Boulevard, especially during heavier bursts early Monday. Commuters should allow extra travel time and watch for sudden visibility drops during thunderstorms.

Rain and storms may linger into Monday evening before gradually tapering overnight. Temperatures will drop sharply to around 29°F Monday night, signaling a quick return to colder air across the Piedmont.

Sunshine returns Tuesday with highs near 45°F, while calmer and drier weather settles into the Charlotte region through midweek. Additional weather updates may be issued if stronger storms develop Sunday night.
