Columbus, OH – Drivers across Columbus could encounter slick pavement and reduced visibility by early Monday morning as steady rain spreads into central Ohio overnight following an unusually warm and windy end to the weekend.
Saturday remains calm with partly sunny skies and highs near 49°F, but clouds increase overnight as temperatures settle around 41°F. The quiet weather will not last long.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, Ohio, winds strengthen Sunday with southerly gusts reaching 38 mph as temperatures surge to around 72°F, nearly 30 degrees above typical mid-March levels. Rain develops after 2 a.m. Sunday night and becomes steady by Monday morning with gusts up to 37 mph.
Rainfall totals between 0.25 and 0.50 inches could create ponding along major routes including I-70, I-71, and I-270, especially during heavier rain bands early Monday. Drivers should allow extra time for travel and watch for sudden visibility drops.
Colder air sweeps in Monday evening as temperatures fall sharply toward 19°F overnight, allowing rain to mix with and briefly change to light snow showers. Minor snow accumulation under half an inch is possible before skies begin to clear.
Clouds linger Tuesday with highs near 30°F, followed by a slow warming trend midweek. Additional advisories may be issued if wind gusts strengthen or snow bands develop late Monday night.
