New York City, NY – Drivers across New York City could face slick pavement and ponding water before the Monday morning commute as steady rain moves in after 2 a.m. Monday, following a breezy but calm weekend setup.

Saturday starts quiet but windy across the state, with gusts reaching 40 mph across the New York City metro by midday. Sunshine and dry air keep conditions manageable through the afternoon, though the gusty west wind may rattle loose objects and create choppy conditions along area waterways.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, clouds increase Sunday before rain develops overnight Sunday into early Monday. The system could produce 0.25 to 0.50 inches of rainfall, with southerly wind gusts up to 41 mph Monday as temperatures surge near 60°F, a brief taste of June-like warmth for mid-March.

Heavy bursts of rain may slow traffic on FDR Drive, the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, and I-278, especially during the early commute window Monday. Transit riders should allow extra travel time as reduced visibility and wet tracks may affect bus and commuter rail operations.

Rain continues Monday night and may briefly mix with wet snow as temperatures drop toward 38°F, though little to no accumulation is expected. A few lingering snow showers could pass through before 8 a.m. Tuesday, followed by gradual clearing.

Drier air and sunshine return by Wednesday, but another round of advisories could be issued if Monday’s rain bands intensify overnight.
