Old Forge, New York – Drivers across the central Adirondacks could encounter snow-covered and drifting roads through Saturday afternoon as lingering snowfall continues across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 2 p.m. Saturday for Hamilton County and northern Herkimer County, including communities such as Old Forge, Long Lake, Eagle Bay, Wells, Big Moose, and Hoffmeister.

Forecasters expect an additional 2 to 4 inches of snow before the storm weakens later in the day. Winds may gust as high as 40 mph, which could blow existing snow across roadways and create drifting in exposed areas.

Travel across Route 28 and other Adirondack mountain roads may become slick, particularly during the morning hours when snowfall is still steady.

Officials advise motorists to use caution and allow extra travel time if travel cannot be avoided. Carrying emergency supplies such as blankets, food, water, and flashlights is recommended when driving through mountain areas during winter storms.

Snow is expected to taper to scattered snow showers later Saturday, though blowing and drifting snow may continue affecting travel across higher terrain into the afternoon.
