Wallace, Idaho – Mountain travel across the Idaho Panhandle could remain slow and hazardous through Saturday morning as additional heavy snowfall piles up along key passes including Lookout Pass and Fourth of July Pass.
According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 a.m. Saturday above 4,000 feet for the Central Panhandle Mountains of Idaho. Communities including Mullan, Kellogg, Wallace, Pinehurst, St. Maries, and Fernwood remain under the warning.
Forecasters expect 1 to 3 inches of additional snow in valley locations, while higher elevations could see 7 to 10 inches of snowfall before the storm tapers later in the morning.
Travel across Interstate 90 near Lookout Pass, as well as routes over Dobson Pass and Fourth of July Pass, may become difficult due to snow-covered pavement and reduced visibility.
Across the Cascades in western Chelan County, Washington, including Stevens Pass and Stehekin, another Winter Storm Warning continues until 5 a.m. Saturday, where up to 2 additional inches of snow and wind gusts near 35 mph could create slick travel conditions overnight.
Officials urge drivers to carry winter emergency supplies and check road conditions through 511 services before traveling through mountain corridors.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve after late Saturday morning, though icy spots may linger on higher elevation roads.
