Price, Utah – Drivers across central and eastern Utah could encounter sudden crosswinds capable of pushing vehicles across lanes beginning Saturday afternoon as wind gusts climb toward 75 mph, creating dangerous conditions on major highways through the night.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, a High Wind Warning is in effect from noon Saturday until early Sunday morning for much of central Utah, including the Wasatch Plateau, Central Mountains, Western Uinta Mountains, Castle Country, and the western Uinta Basin. West to northwest winds of 35 to 50 mph may produce gusts exceeding 75 mph in higher terrain.

Communities including Price, Castle Dale, Duchesne, Roosevelt, Scofield, and areas near Fish Lake and Mirror Lake Highway are expected to experience the strongest winds as a powerful cold front sweeps across the region.

Travel could become hazardous along Interstate 70 near Fremont Junction and State Route 10, where strong crosswinds may impact vehicles towing trailers or driving high-profile vehicles such as RVs and tractor-trailers. Blowing dust may also briefly reduce visibility across open desert areas.

The warning also extends into southwest Wyoming, including Evanston and Lyman, where gusts up to 65 mph may develop from 10 a.m. Saturday until midnight.

Residents across the region are urged to secure loose outdoor items before winds intensify Saturday afternoon and prepare for possible power outages from downed branches or debris.

The strongest winds are expected to weaken by early Sunday morning, though additional advisories could be issued if conditions intensify along central Utah’s mountain corridors.
