Colorado Springs, Colorado – Residents across eastern Colorado could feel a dramatic temperature drop within hours Sunday as a powerful cold front sweeps across the Plains, bringing strong winds and a rapid cooldown.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a High Wind Watch has been issued for parts of the region Sunday as powerful winds develop across the Plains. Gusts could exceed 60 mph in some locations, creating hazardous travel conditions for high-profile vehicles and blowing debris across open roadways.

Saturday will feel more like late spring across the region. High temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-80s across the Plains, including areas near Colorado Springs and Pueblo, while the San Luis Valley reaches the 60s.

That warmth will disappear quickly once the front arrives Sunday morning. High temperatures Sunday may run 35 to 45 degrees colder than Saturday, with many communities struggling to reach the mid-40s by afternoon.

The abrupt change could also bring areas of light rain or a rain-snow mix north of Highway 50, particularly in higher elevations and northern portions of the region.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items before winds increase and prepare for a rapid drop in temperatures Sunday. Additional wind alerts or weather advisories could be issued as the front approaches eastern Colorado.
