Aroma Park, IL – Families and first responders in Kankakee County are receiving critical nutritional support today as Midwest Food Bank mobilizes an emergency relief operation following Tuesdayโ€™s destructive EF-3 tornado.

According to Midwest Food Bank Executive Director John Cirilli, a relief truck was scheduled to depart for the region at 7:30 a.m. Thursday to begin the staging and distribution of life-sustaining supplies. The shipment reportedly contains 300 food boxes of shelf-stable meals and 300 hygiene kits designed to assist families displaced by the storm. Cirilli stated that the organization is working alongside the Salvation Army to ensure resources reach the communities that need them most.

Information provided by the food bank indicates that the powerful storm system, which struck the evening of March 10, 2026, allegedly caused widespread damage to homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure across the county. While assessments of the total damage are ongoing, Midwest Food Bank officials noted that the staging area in Elk Grove Village will serve as a hub for regional response partners to reach affected residents.

According to relief organizers, financial donations are currently the most effective way to support the ongoing mission, as they allow for the rapid purchase of fuel and specific supplies. Those looking to contribute can allegedly do so by visiting the organizationโ€™s website or texting “@MFB” to 52014. Midwest Food Bank representatives emphasized that they provide food to partner non-profit agencies at no cost to ensure that disaster victims do not have to face the aftermath of the storm alone.
