Tomah, Wisconsin — A suspected stolen vehicle pursuit ended Wednesday evening near Tomah after deputies used a tire deflation device.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were notified shortly after 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, March 11 through a Flock License Plate Camera alert indicating a vehicle in Monroe County had been reported stolen out of Minnesota.
Deputies located the vehicle a short time later and attempted a traffic stop. Authorities say the driver allegedly refused to pull over, prompting deputies to follow the vehicle while coordinating with Tomah Police and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
As the vehicle approached I-90 near Tomah, deputies deployed a tire deflation device. The vehicle briefly stopped but allegedly attempted to flee again, authorities said.
Investigators said the driver then turned south onto Highway 131 and attempted to drive through a field. The vehicle became disabled, and the driver was taken into custody.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies later located a handgun inside the vehicle that had also been reported stolen from a Chicago, Illinois security guard in an aggravated assault case.
Authorities identified the driver as 37-year-old Alfonso Allen, who reportedly lists an address in New Jersey.
Allen was booked into the Monroe County Jail on several allegations, including fleeing an officer, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting an officer, possession of a firearm by a felon, receiving stolen property, and operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent, according to officials.
Allen is scheduled to appear in Monroe County Circuit Court at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 13, for a bond hearing, authorities said.
The pursuit briefly involved major travel corridors near I-90, a route frequently used by commuters and students traveling through the Tomah area.
