Concord, New Hampshire – Spring break travelers heading into New Hampshire could encounter a sharp return to winter as temperatures plunge well below seasonal averages between March 16 and March 20. Overnight lows across much of the state may fall into the teens, creating bitter early-morning conditions just days before the official start of spring.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a broad stretch of the eastern United States—from Minnesota to East Texas and east to the Atlantic coast—shows a 60–70% probability of below-normal temperatures during that period. Northern New England remains one of the regions most likely to experience the colder air.

Cities including Concord, Manchester, and Nashua could see overnight lows dropping into the teens, especially under clear skies when temperatures cool rapidly after sunset. Northern communities and mountain valleys may see even colder readings in sheltered areas.

Daytime temperatures are expected to recover into the 30s and 40s, but those readings will still run several degrees below typical mid-March levels.

Travelers driving along Interstate 93, Interstate 89, and Interstate 95 during spring break should prepare for icy conditions during early morning hours, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and untreated rural roads.

Visitors heading to the White Mountains or ski resorts such as Loon Mountain and Bretton Woods should pack winter layers, as colder air combined with occasional snow showers could maintain winter-like conditions at elevation.

The colder pattern may persist through March 20, and additional advisories could follow if temperatures continue trending toward the teens across New Hampshire during the first official week of spring.
