Fort Worth, Texas – Drivers across North and Central Texas could face sudden crosswinds Wednesday afternoon as north winds ramp up to 40 mph, creating hazardous conditions for trucks, RVs, and other high-profile vehicles along major highways.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, a Wind Advisory remains in effect from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m. Wednesday for much of the region along and west of Interstate 35, including Dallas–Fort Worth, Waco, Killeen, Stephenville, and Graham. Sustained winds are expected to hold near 20 to 30 mph, with stronger gusts capable of briefly pushing vehicles across lanes on exposed roadways.
The strongest impacts will likely occur along open stretches of I-35, I-20, and U.S. Highway 281, where north winds behind a passing cold front will accelerate through the afternoon. Drivers pulling trailers or operating delivery trucks may notice sudden steering resistance, especially on elevated bridges and overpasses.
Officials urge residents to secure patio furniture, trash bins, and lightweight outdoor decorations before winds peak later today. Loose items can easily become airborne when gusts approach 40 mph.
The wind should gradually weaken after 10 p.m. Wednesday, though breezy conditions may linger overnight across parts of North Texas. Additional advisories could be issued if stronger gusts develop behind the advancing cold front.
