Louisville, Kentucky – Strong thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes and damaging wind could quickly intensify across northern and central Kentucky Wednesday afternoon, threatening communities along the Ohio River through early evening.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Tornado Watch 43 remains in effect until 6 p.m. EDT for nearly 30 counties across the region, including Jefferson, Kenton, Boone, Campbell, Franklin, and Shelby counties.

The watch includes major population centers such as Louisville, Frankfort, and the Northern Kentucky suburbs near Cincinnati. Storms developing along the Ohio River corridor could bring wind gusts over 65 mph, torrential rainfall, and the potential for brief tornadoes.

Travel could become hazardous along Interstate 64, Interstate 71, and Interstate 75 as storms move through the region during the afternoon. Communities including Covington, Florence, Georgetown, and Shelbyville may experience rapidly changing weather conditions with intense lightning and sudden downpours.

Emergency officials recommend securing outdoor items and ensuring multiple ways to receive weather alerts. Residents should move immediately to a basement or interior room if a tornado warning is issued.

Storm activity may continue to intensify through the evening hours Wednesday, and additional warnings could be issued as the severe weather threat evolves.
