Indianapolis, Indiana – Drivers and residents across central Indiana and western Ohio have a narrow window of severe weather risk Wednesday morning as Tornado Watch 41 remains active until noon EDT, covering dozens of counties during the late morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis and Wilmington, thunderstorms capable of producing isolated tornadoes, damaging wind gusts, and heavy downpours remain possible across parts of Indiana and Ohio through the midday hours.
In Indiana, the watch includes Decatur, Jackson, Jennings, Jefferson, Fayette, Union, Wayne, Dearborn, Franklin, Ohio, Ripley, and Switzerland counties. Cities such as Greensburg, Seymour, North Vernon, Richmond, Batesville, Lawrenceburg, and Vevay sit within the threat zone as storms move east across the state.
The risk continues into Ohio, where more than 30 cities are under the watch, including Columbus, Dayton, Springfield, Wilmington, Xenia, Lancaster, Newark, and Chillicothe. Counties along the I-70, I-71, and I-75 corridors could see rapidly developing storms capable of brief rotation.
Emergency managers urge residents to stay alert this morning, especially in areas where storms can quickly intensify. Keep weather alerts enabled on mobile devices, identify a safe interior room, and be ready to take shelter if warnings are issued.
The tornado watch remains in effect until noon EDT, and additional warnings could be issued if storms strengthen as they track east across Indiana into Ohio through the late morning hours.
