Ohio – Dark clouds sweep across Clinton County this morning as powerful spring storms push toward Wilmington, bringing wind gusts near 50 mph and bursts of heavy rain before evening. Wet pavement and sudden wind shifts could quickly impact drivers along I-71 and U.S. Route 68 through the afternoon commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m., with southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts approaching 50 mph. Thunderstorms may strengthen during the afternoon hours, producing damaging wind gusts, isolated large hail, and brief tornado potential as a cold front moves across southwest Ohio.

Wilmington and surrounding communities including Xenia, Washington Court House, Hillsboro, and Dayton sit directly in the corridor for the strongest wind bursts. Gusts could snap small tree limbs, toss unsecured outdoor items, and trigger scattered power outages. Drivers of high-profile vehicles on Interstate 71 and U.S. 35 should expect sudden crosswinds, especially across open farmland.

Rainfall and storms gradually shift east by evening. Colder air sweeps in behind the front, and temperatures tumble quickly after sunset. By early morning, readings near 32°F could create patchy slick spots where water remains on untreated roads. That flash-freeze risk tends to spike during March when warm daytime rain suddenly meets freezing overnight temperatures.

Conditions calm briefly Thursday as clouds decrease and temperatures fall back into the mid-40s. However, the atmosphere stays active. Another surge of wind develops Friday with gusts approaching 45 to 48 mph, which could impact early Spring Break travel across Ohio highways.

Looking ahead, signs of early spring warmth return by the weekend and into next week, with highs climbing back toward the upper 60s. Additional rain chances may develop Sunday afternoon as the next system approaches the Ohio Valley.
