Davenport, Iowa – Drivers across the Quad Cities could encounter gusty winds over 30 mph and scattered rain or snow showers through early Wednesday afternoon, creating brief visibility drops and slick spots on elevated roads like the I-74 Mississippi River bridge.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, light rain and snow showers will move through eastern Iowa and western Illinois Wednesday morning with temperatures stuck in the 30s. Light snow accumulation may develop on grassy or elevated surfaces north of Highway 30 before precipitation tapers later in the day.
Wind remains the bigger concern. Gusts exceeding 30 mph Wednesday will continue into Thursday as a strengthening storm system passes north of the region. Cities including Davenport, Bettendorf, Rock Island and Moline may see sustained southwest winds Thursday with additional rain chances arriving overnight.
The system shifts Friday, turning winds to the northwest with gusts potentially reaching 35 mph. That change will keep travel breezy along major corridors including I-80, US-61 and Illinois Route 92 while temperatures hold in the 40s and low 50s.
Another weak disturbance could bring scattered rain or snow showers Saturday, mainly north of Interstate 80. Temperatures will range from the upper 30s in northern counties to the 50s farther south.
Wind advisories are not currently posted, but additional statements may be issued if gusts strengthen later this week. Residents should secure loose outdoor items and allow extra travel time during windy periods.
