Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Drivers across southern Wisconsin may encounter slick roads during the morning commute as freezing drizzle develops north and west of Milwaukee before changing to light snow later today.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, areas north and west of the Milwaukee metro could see freezing drizzle between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m., creating a thin glaze of ice on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads. Temperatures are expected to gradually fall as colder air pushes in from the northwest.
Communities including Madison, Baraboo, West Bend, and Waupun have the greatest chance of seeing icy conditions early Wednesday. Elevated surfaces such as sidewalks, parking lots, and highway overpasses may become slippery during the morning hours.
By late morning, colder air will allow precipitation to transition into light snow across much of southern Wisconsin. Areas closer to the Lake Michigan shoreline—including Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha—may briefly see a mix of precipitation before the changeover to snow.
Light snow is expected from late morning into the afternoon, with slushy accumulations up to around 1 inch possible, especially north of Interstate 94.
Major travel routes including I-94, I-43, and U.S. 41 could experience slower travel due to slick spots and reduced visibility during bursts of snow.
Conditions should gradually improve later in the afternoon as the system moves east, though drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time and watch for icy patches on untreated roads.
