Oklahoma – Trash cans tumble down neighborhood streets and highway signs rattle as strong March winds sweep across central Oklahoma this morning. Gusts near 45 mph are already whipping through the Oklahoma City area, creating difficult driving conditions and the potential for scattered power issues through early evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Norman, a Wind Advisory remains in effect from 4 a.m. until 7 p.m. across central, northern, and southern Oklahoma, including Oklahoma City, Norman, Moore, Guthrie, and Stillwater. North winds between 25 and 35 mph are expected, with peak gusts approaching 45 mph.
Drivers along I-40, I-35, and the Kilpatrick Turnpike may notice vehicles drifting within lanes as crosswinds push across open stretches of roadway. High-profile vehicles such as semis, delivery trucks, and RVs face the greatest risk. Plan extra space between vehicles and keep both hands firmly on the wheel.
Loose outdoor items can easily become airborne today. Patio furniture, trash bins, and construction materials may blow into streets or yards. Secure anything lightweight before winds strengthen during the late morning and afternoon hours.
Tree limbs could snap under stronger gusts, and isolated power outages remain possible across parts of central Oklahoma. Residents should charge devices now and keep flashlights accessible just in case.
Conditions improve quickly after sunset as winds weaken tonight. Calmer weather returns Thursday with sunshine and lighter breezes, setting up a noticeably warmer pattern heading into the end of the week. By Friday and Saturday, temperatures climb well above normal, bringing early spring warmth across Oklahoma just as spring break travel ramps up nationwide.
Traveling later this week? Expect much calmer roads by Friday afternoon.
